What’s more romantic than the lake in autumn? When its banks are colored with the warm colors of the foliage and in the crisp air you hear only the chirping of birds and the rustle of dry leaves that spread out like a carpet colored in yellow, red and orange. Lake Garda is the largest and most popular lake in Italy, a paradise for those who love sports on the water and on land: its Trentino shores attract thousands of tourists every year. Where is it We are between Trentino, Lombardy and Veneto, on the largest and most important lake in Italy, which covers an area of 370 square km in total for 350 meters of depth. To the north it narrows like a funnel, to the south it widens; its Trentino shore, to the north, is located in the province of Trento and is overlooked by the municipalities of Nago, Torbole and Riva del Garda.
Things to do near Garda
Thanks to the Mediterranean climate of the lake that only on this shore is perfectly combined with the Alpine one, the Trentino area is for many the most beautiful and evocative of this large body of water, thanks also to the evident landscape contrast between the mountains and the vegetation. We are, in fact, already surrounded by mountains over 2,000 meters high, but olive and lemon trees bloom on the shores of the lake.
Those who dream of spending a holiday here can choose from numerous opportunities. Among the sports that can be practiced, the most popular are undoubtedly sailing, windsurfing, mountain biking, sport climbing, canoeing and scuba diving, thanks to the many sports clubs present, which organize courses and international sporting events. Lovers of sailing and windsurfing rely on the Ora, the wind that blows every day with great regularity, while those who prefer the thrill and vertigo of climbing find spectacular cliffs suspended overlooking the water, real natural gyms of rock.
Somethings to see? Just choise!
The white beaches, on the other hand, are the realm of relaxation, for those who expect days of rest, sun and quiet from the lake. Those who do not necessarily want to laze or play sports can take the ferry to Riva del Garda or Torbole to take an excursion on the water, sitting comfortably to observe the landscape and other areas of the lake. And again, in Riva del Garda you can take a stroll and breathe the Central European charm of the town in the well-kept historic center overlooking Piazza 3 Novembre, with the Palazzo del Comune (from 1200) and the Palazzo del Pretorio (dating back to 1300), then stroll to the lakeside and finally visit the Civic Museum inside the Rocca di Riva.
How to get to the lake
If you arrive by car, take the Rovereto Sud – Lago di Garda Nord exit on the A22 motorway: a further 17 km will take you to the lake. Coming from the north, take the Trento center exit and continue on the SS 45b for 40 km to Riva del Garda. Those who prefer the bus can arrive with direct connections from Trento, Rovereto, Verona, Desenzano, Peschiera and Venice. Finally, those arriving by train from Milan or Venice can get off at Desenzano, Peschiera or Verona and continue by bus.
